Who departs Manchester United at the end of the season is shaping up to be as intriguing as who comes in. According to the Athletic, Erik ten Hag is looking for a new center-forward, an attacking upgrade at right-back, and a box-to-box midfielder.

A new goalkeeper has also been mentioned, as there have been repeated concerns that David de Gea is not suited to an Erik ten Hag system.

United star Paul Scholes has joined the chorus of those questioning De Gea’s suitability for what Ten Hag wants his team to be.

De Gea’s gloves remain imperious, but his feet are painfully limited. These constraints raised their ugly heads during Sevilla’s Europa League exit, preventing Ten Hag from completely executing a possession-based approach.

However, ESPN recently reported that the four-time Manchester United Player of the Year is set to sign a new multi-year contract.

TEAMtalk later revealed that Ten Hag was the driving reason behind the impending deal, with the Dutchman telling the club’s board that De Gea is his unquestioned No. 1.

According to Football Insider, a side effect of De Gea’s impending contract is Dean Henderson realizing his time is up.

Dean Henderson’s time at Manchester United has come to an end.
The 26-year-old is on loan at Nottingham Forest at the moment. He had played effectively in the first part of the season, but a thigh ailment has kept him out since January. Keylor Navas, a PSG loanee, will remain in goal until the conclusion of the season.

According to FI, the revelation of De Gea’s new contract has led Henderson to believe that a return to Manchester United is “impossible.”

Henderson has set his sights on making Gareth Southgate’s England side for Euro 2024. Only regular playing time will allow him to stake his claim, so warming the bench at Old Trafford is out of the question.

As a result, Henderson is said to be set to quit Manchester United permanently this summer.

Another loan stint would be pointless because the De Gea problem would still be present when the second loan ended.
