Not Kane or Osimhen – Michael Owen names one signing Man Utd need to beat Man City, Arsenal to 2024 Premier League title

Michael Owen has explained why he is still not convinced Manchester United has what it takes to win the Premier League title next season – but acknowledges they have the “right manager” in Erik Ten Hag to put them on the right track.

This season, the Red Devils have progressed tremendously under Ten Hag’s direction. He took over a team that finished sixth last season and has shaken things up from the ground up. After bringing in a number of new players over the summer, Juan Mata, Paul Pogba, and Jesse Lingard were permitted to leave to make way for a new broom.

Indeed, during his first summer in charge, United’s manager was authorized to spend up to £200 million on new players. While the high-priced acquisitions for Antony and Lisandro Martinez aroused some eyebrows, the results on the pitch have more than justified his investment.

Manchester United have already won the Carabao Cup as a result of their improvements. And if they win the FA Cup and the Europa League, their trophy cupboard will grow even more.

Because of their success, some fans are even thinking of a title challenge next season.

Ten Hag will be given more finances to bolster his team this summer. And if he completes his recruitment as successfully as the last time, there is a growing belief that even higher standards will push them to greatness.

United is third in the Premier League this season, 15 points behind Arsenal, but with a game in hand.

Owen explains why Manchester United will not compete for the Premier League title next season.
Owen, on the other hand, is skeptical that they will be able to reduce the gap significantly. And he points out that their playing squad is still not nearly good enough to compete with the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City.

“Manchester United is doing very well at the moment,” he explained. “However, when I watch them, I don’t think, ‘Oh my word, Manchester United is back…'” They’re tearing teams apart and simply winning’.

“I’m still a long way from believing that will happen.” I believe they have hired the correct manager. I believe there is a buzz around the club right now that they, and every team, require.

“However, I believe the actual playing staff is still some distance from becoming… To put it another way, if the league started today, I wouldn’t consider Manchester United to be a threat to Arsenal and Manchester City just yet.”

Indeed, Owen believes United must sign a new center forward in order to compete next season. Even yet, he believes their playing squad lags behind their competition.

“I still believe they need more players in that squad.” They are in serious need of a center forward. That is a must-have for next season. Manchester United, I believe, is still a few players short.

“I believe their squad is improving. As I previously stated, Ten Hag is doing an excellent job and appears to be the appropriate man. However, I believe they are currently lacking in quality when compared to teams such as Arsenal and Manchester City.”

Owen takes note of Ten Hag’s improvement.

Regardless of his predictions for next season, Owen believes Ten Hag deserves a lot of credit for their success this year.

And finishing in the top four, with the possibility of adding another trophy to their collection, signals a highly successful campaign.

When AceOdds spoke with him, he was quick to praise the Ducthman’s efforts thus far.

“If they finish in the top four, then I’d say it’s a massively successful season,” Owen continued. “Recall where Manchester United has been in the decade since Sir Alex Ferguson left.”

“Yes, there have been one or two trophies, but the last few years have been difficult.” Winning a title and qualifying for the Champions League would be a huge step forward in my opinion.

“I believe it will be a huge success, and they are currently expected to finish in the top four.” With the trophy now under their belt, the season is looking promising.

“But, at the end of the day, they’re Manchester United.” They will not accept this, but I’m sure the supporters will have accepted it at the start of the season as a stepping stone to greater things.”
