Manchester United is still interested in signing Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong. The Red Devils, on the other hand, might kill two birds with one stone, with the Catalan giants willing to discharge both Memphis Depay and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. With the La Liga giants approving exits for the pair, Erik ten Hag may have an opportunity too good to pass up.

Manchester United has spent nearly a quarter of a year pursuing De Jong, who was quickly identified as the club’s top target following Ten Hag’s hiring.

A deal for the 25-year-old midfielder is still in the works, with Chelsea also interested.

United is still hopeful of bringing in De Jong, despite being confident of signing Adrien Rabiot from Juventus.

And, with Barcelona approving Depay and Aubameyang’s exits under the correct conditions, they have a window of opportunity.

In addition to De Jong, United has been looking for a fresh forward.

Darwin Nunez, an Uruguay international, chose to leave Benfica for Liverpool earlier this summer, thus they missed out on him.

They have also avoided Benjamin Sesko, who is set to join RB Leipzig from Red Bull Salzburg next summer.

United has also been priced out of a deal for Antony. Ajax wants £80 million for the Brazilian international, which the Red Devils will not pay.

While they did explore signing Marko Arnautovic, a fan outcry combined with Bologna’s high asking price forced them to pull out of a deal.

United, on the other hand, now has a terrific opportunity to add a top forward to their ranks.

Depay was a flop when he arrived at Old Trafford from PSV Eindhoven in the summer of 2015 when Louis van Gaal was in charge.

Not De Jong – Manchester United gained final agreement on a 40 million pound second Barcelona deal as a player willing to join Ten Hag’s squad.

Big things were expected of the Netherlands international, dubbed the heir to Cristiano Ronaldo, especially when he was granted the No. 7 shirt.

However, Depay failed to live up to expectations and was sold to Lyon by Jose Mourinho in January 2018.

He has now rebuilt his career, starring for Lyon and Barcelona, as well as the Netherlands.

Tottenham and Juventus are the frontrunners in the race to sign the 28-year-old, but United may be tempted to make a move.

Aubameyang is in the same boat.

While Xavi wants to keep the Barcelona star, their financial condition means they’re open to offers at the right price.

United’s reaction to being offered Aubameyang, who formerly played in the Premier League for Arsenal, has been reserved.

However, if they continue to miss further targets, they may make a U-turn.

Both Depay and Aubameyang would be excellent acquisitions to United, especially with Barcelona eager to get them off the payroll.

But it remains to be seen whether they will accept either player at a time when they are battling to sign De Jong.

Meanwhile, former Manchester United star Gary Neville recently stated that the club had let Ten Hag down with their lack of additions this summer.

“I’m not putting any pressure on Ten Hag right now because I don’t believe he’s been given the resources to work with that he should have at this point in the season,” he said.

“That could change in a few weeks.”

“I believe he has a difficult job, and I believe Manchester United fans are patient.”
