Casemiro has been compared to Roy Keane ahead of Manchester United’s Premier League match against Leeds on Wednesday. Erik ten Hag, on the other hand, is in a pickle ahead of that encounter, with the Brazil international set to miss it due to suspension. Marcel Sabitzer is now anticipated to play in the middle of the park with Fred, with Bruno Fernandes playing farther ahead.

Manchester United’s recovery under Ten Hag continued on Saturday with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace.

However, the Red Devils were dealt a huge blow during that game when Casemiro was given his marching orders.

The Brazil international was shown a straight red card for putting his hands around Palace player Will Hughes’ throat.

Despite his transgression, former United great Teddy Sheringham has compared the 30-year-old to ex-Red Devils captain Roy Keane.

“All I’ll say about Casemiro is that I think he’s like the Roy Keane that they’ve been lacking for the last eight years,” he told talkSPORT.

“That midfield general who understands the game and knows when to do what to ensure that his team is performing to the best of their abilities.”

And Sheringham has even backed Casemiro following his red card, implying the United star felt compelled to intervene.

His dismissal followed a scuffle triggered by Antony being sent soaring into the advertising boards around Old Trafford.

“He’s not only concerned with himself,” Sheringham remarked.

“Perhaps he felt compelled to impose something at the time [of his red card].”

United will now be without Casemiro for the next three games.

Christian Eriksen has already been ruled out until late April or early May after being pushed out of the club’s recent 3-1 triumph over Reading.

Donny van de Beek is out till the end of the season due to an injury.

United is also now missing Scott McTominay.

As a result of his move from Bayern Munich last month, Sabitzer is expected to step up for the Red Devils.

Fabrizio Romano has spoken out about the Austrian international, stating that Chelsea was interested in him before United signed him.

“The player was offered to Chelsea, was not considered by Chelsea, thus Chelsea were not interested in buying Marcel Sabitzer in the final hours of the market,” Romano said on his YouTube channel.

“Manchester United were keen because Chelsea were preoccupied with Enzo Fernandez.

“Man Utd wanted Marcel Sabitzer as a key target, but also the player was highly keen on Man Utd. Other choices were not considered by the player.

“We also had some rumours on Newcastle since they were looking for that kind of player and they contemplated that kind of possibility.

“But they decided also not to proceed since Sabitzer was really intent on joining Manchester United, in love with Erik ten Hag’s views of football, and so this is why for Sabitzer, the hijack was refused. Nothing was in jeopardy.

“After Christian Eriksen’s injury, Manchester United was [the] only option for Sabitzer as [the] ideal midfielder.”

Last season, United defeated Leeds 5-1, with Bruno Fernandes scoring a hat-trick.
