Mohamed Salah of Liverpool was significantly disturbed during his penalty kick in Egypt’s important World Cup qualifier second-leg against Senegal Friday night, which saw the Lions advance at the expense of the Egyptians.
Senegal won the game 1-0 courtesy to an early own goal by Hamdi Fathi, and because the game was level 1-1 on aggregate, it went to penalties.
Salah elected to go first this time after missing out on a spot-kick in the African Cup of Nations final in January.
As shown in the video below, Senegalese fans pelted the Egyptian superstar with lasers to the face, which worked as he blasted his shot over the bar.
Senegal went on to win the shootout 3-1, although the home crowd’s sportsmanship was harshly criticized in the aftermath.
Although Senegal fans will be overjoyed at reaching the World Cup for the third time and will dismiss the criticism, this was not the way to go about it.
