Victor Lindelof says Manchester United’s main issue this season has been ‘consistency,’ as the Red Devils head into the final four games of the season nearly certain to miss out on Champions League status. United were expected to be serious Premier League title contenders this season, but they are presently in sixth position, six points behind fourth-placed Arsenal, who also have a game in hand.
United were also expected to win silverware, but West Ham knocked them out of the Carabao Cup early on, Middlesbrough knocked them out of the FA Cup, and Atletico Madrid knocked them out of the Champions League. It means United will only have pride to play for in the final games of the season, and Lindelof admits the fans are entitled to much more.
“I believe we need to establish greater consistency in our approach to the game and win more games,” he told United Review. “We’ve been winning one game, drawing one, losing one, winning two games… In whatever we do, we need to be more consistent.
“I believe that’s the most important thing we need to improve on because it’s sometimes too easy for opponents to play past us and create opportunities against us.”
“Of course, when things are difficult, you must stick together and work even harder.” We tried, even though it was a challenging season for us, and we’re still fighting for a top-four finish.
“Of course, we want to be higher up and compete for titles, but we need greater consistency, and we have to keep together as a group and believe in ourselves at all times.”
