“He is overly anxious; when he gets the ball, he feels he has to produce something extraordinary,” Scholes observed.
“That’s the very worst thing you can do.” He needs to settle down and engage in some games. His form will reappear.
“I don’t believe he didn’t work hard tonight; I believe it was the anxiety in him.”
Rashford gave the ball away regularly in the final third, and his one long-range chance sailed over the crossbar.
Scholes also stated that he needs more senior leaders on the team to assist Rashford and teach him through games, as the manager’s orders are clearly failing.
Rashford failed to register a shot on goal or create a chance, and only 71% of his passes were completed.
The England international appeared dissatisfied with himself and did not appear to be enjoying himself at all. His demeanor as he walked off the field was that of a defeated athlete.
Anthony Elanga’s reckless style contrasts sharply with Rashford’s terrifying performances, and the young Swede is on the verge of displacing him in the starting lineup.
Rashford did not play against Leeds last weekend, and it was a huge opportunity for him that he squandered.
United needs him to re-establish his old form, which we haven’t seen all season. Rashford appears to be a shell of the player he once was.
