According to rumors, Erik ten Hag has been interviewed for the position of Manchester United’s next permanent manager.
After a dismal run of play, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was ousted as United manager in November and was replaced on an interim basis by Ralf Rangnick until the end of the season.
The latter is slated to join the Red Devils as a consultant at the end of the season and will work with the club’s future manager.
According to the Daily Mail, Ten Hag was interviewed for the position on Monday and is one of ‘several of candidates’ discussing with United about the role at Old Trafford, including Mauricio Pochettino, Julen Lopetegui, and Luis Enrique.
Ten Hag is now the bookies’ favorite for the post, with his contract at Ajax expiring in 2023.
United will finish the season without a trophy for the fifth year in a row, and fans will be hoping that if ten Hag is chosen manager, he would be able to turn their fortunes around.
One way the Dutchman can accomplish this is by revamping the Red Devils roster, especially with numerous first-team players out of contract this summer.
With that in mind, let’s take a look at seven Ajax players who the 52-year-old could aim to sign if he is granted the job at United.
1. Ryan Gravenberch
The 20-year-old has been an important player of ten Hag’s squad, appearing in 37 games in all competitions, scoring twice and assisting his teammates six times. His faith in young players is something the Red Devils have done for many years.
2. Jurrien Timber
Jurrien Timmer, a 20-year-old center-back, has been Ajax’s first-choice in that position this season, despite the fact that many fans and analysts believe the club needs to reinforce at that position.
3. Lisandro Martinez
Lisandro Martinez, another of Hag’s go-to center-backs, has made 36 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring once and assisting four times.
With 12 goals this season, the winger is Ajax’s third-highest scorer and has piqued the interest of other European clubs.
5. Perr Schuurs
The 22-year-old is a rotating option at center-back for the Dutch club, having appeared 26 times in all competitions. Liverpool has previously been connected with him, but United might be a viable alternative for the defender in the future.
6. Devyne Rensch
Devyne Rensch, a versatile player who can play anywhere in defense, is only 19 years old and might be a fantastic option for the Red Devils in the future.
7. Kenneth Taylor
This season, the center-midfielder has been a rotating player for 10 Hag, appearing 12 times. In those games, however, he has two goals and three assists. Kenneth Taylor has also represented the Netherlands at the youth level on multiple occasions.
