Ralf Rangnick, the next Manchester United coach, is keen to bring Erling Haaland, a rumored Manchester City target, to Old Trafford in 2022.
The German manager will want to sign the 21-year-old attacker next year, according to Sport Bild journalist Christian Falk. Rangnick is said to have aided the signing of Haaland by RB Salzburg, with the new United manager also being a friend of the striker’s father, agent, and former City player Alf-Inge Haaland.
The competition to sign Haaland, who is said to have a €75 million (£63 million) release clause that kicks in in January, will be one of the most intense in recent memory. The striker is already one of the finest in the world at his position, and his attributes make him a valuable asset for a number of clubs.
City, on the other hand, has been tipped as the favorites for Haaland so far. After all, the striker grew up as a Manchester United supporter. And, considering Pep Guardiola’s desire for a natural attacker, the Borussia Dortmund striker is an ideal addition for the Premier League champions.
United’s interest in Haaland, whom the Sun recently described as a “beast,” could complicate matters for City, considering the Red Devils’ size and the lofty goals they are attempting to achieve under Rangnick.
The German coach was brought in to help the club get back on track. Rangnick’s experience with Hoffenheim and the Red Bull network of clubs means United have the perfect man to pull them out of this hole, which might cause City problems.
City has been connected with Haaland for over a year, and losing out on the 21-year-old attacker to their Manchester rivals, who have no actual need for a striker, would be terrible.
Indeed, Haaland is the ideal attacker for City’s requirements. And if United beat them to it, it would cast significant question on the club’s transfer committee, which is expected to deliver the Bundesliga star in 2022, according to fans.
