Following his hat-trick in Manchester United’s thrilling 3-2 victory against Tottenham Hotspur, Paul Pogba has dismissed allegations that Cristiano Ronaldo is a “trouble” for the club.
The 37-year-old scored three goals to propel United back into the top four of the Premier League, despite Spurs twice equalizing at Old Trafford in a five-goal thriller.
This season, Ronaldo has been chastised for negatively hurting United, whether through his style of play or personality and most recently for missing their 4-1 thrashing at the hands of bitter rivals Manchester City last weekend.
However, in a vehement defense, Pogba dismissed assertions that he is “the best striker in history.”
“It was a wonderful game, and we responded beautifully.” “We wounded them when we needed to, and Ronaldo did what he does best,” the midfielder told BBC Sport.
“He [Ronaldo] has never been an issue.” You have the greatest striker in history on your team; he can’t be a problem. Today’s performance by him and the rest of the team was outstanding.”
In response to the 4-1 loss, Pogba told Sky Sports: “Ronaldo was magnificent.” That’s all we needed, I believe — a reaction. We scored some spectacular goals. Even when we conceded a goal, we responded by scoring again. Today, the mentality was present once more.

“Today was a good day. The supporters can be heard — they were pushing us and feeling it. Today, I believe, was a very excellent team effort and a very nice reaction to the City game.
“We never gave up hope.” We didn’t have a good passing in the second half, and I believe the movement was lacking. We gave them some confidence, and that’s why they scored. “However, we got a corner and scored the game-winning goal.”
Following the final whistle, Red Devils icon Roy Keane, who was on punditry duty for Sky, shared Pogba’s sentiments.
“We shouldn’t be surprised, he got a beautiful hat-trick, but he’s been doing it for years, maybe over the last week or two following the criticism,” Keane, who briefly played alongside Ronaldo for United, claimed.
“But he’s done it for his career.” You may blame [Eric] Dier for the first goal, but he has to run out there and block a shot from a player like Ronaldo. But the person… Amazing, incredible.”
