Michael Carrick has stated that Donny van de Beek was not given enough first-team appearances at Manchester United prior to his loan move.
After joining United from Ajax in 2020, the Dutchman was repeatedly upset by his lack of opportunities at Old Trafford. Van de Beek was rarely granted playing time by former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer despite impressing in Erik ten Hag’s side in Amsterdam.
Even after Ralf Rangnick took over as interim manager in November, the Netherlands international was still benched, despite United’s midfield woes. Van van Beek later moved on loan to Everton in the January transfer window in search of consistent playing time.
United has warned ten of its players that they must go.
