According to reports, the two were at odds about who should wear the captain’s armband for the remainder of the season.
However, both Maguire and interim manager Ralf Rangnick have denied any disagreement.
“I’ve read a lot of reports about this club that aren’t true, and this is another,” Maguire stated on Twitter.
“I’m not going to start posting on everything that’s written, but I had to clarify this one.” We’ve come together and are focused on Sunday. Everyone, have a wonderful day.”
Nonetheless, Berbatov, a United legend, has given Maguire and Berbatov some advise.
The Bulgarian has advised the couple to’speak face-to-face and straighten it out’ if there is a problem, since it is an unwelcome distraction.
“There is always rumour and speculation going around at any club, and who knows if there is anything in the storey of a captaincy battle between Harry Maguire and Cristiano Ronaldo,” Berbatov told Betfair.
“That is not the case, according to Harry.” I’m hoping he’s correct.
“However, if there is something to it, I hope they can talk it out face to face.”
“What is certain is that this is not the type of thing United requires at this time.” United is battling for a top-four finish, which they must attain.
“This isn’t the time to be talking about it in the middle of the season.”
Berbatov accepted Ronaldo’s argument for captaincy, claiming that he has “experienced everything in the game.”
Maguire, on the other hand, does not enjoy ‘running’ away from the responsibility that comes with wearing the armband.
“Obviously, Ronaldo is a football superstar; he’s done it all, and when you have a guy like him in your side, you need to utilise him, seek for help, and listen to what he says,” he continued.
“During training and in games, he leads by example.
“It makes sense for Ronaldo to be captain because he has seen everything there is to see in the game.”
“On the other side, Maguire is captain, and while he may have had a few terrible games, I don’t think he’d want to abdicate that role.”
“If there’s anything in it, they ought to sit down, talk to each other and the management, and just f**k figure it out!”
