It was announced on Tuesday that Lionel Messi had signed a free transfer to Paris Saint-Germain, with his former teammate Luis Suarez being cheekily offered the opportunity to join him in the French Premier League.
Ligue 1 star Lionel Messi has reportedly approached Cristiano Ronaldo about joining him next season.
Last Monday, Messi officially completed his transfer to Paris Saint-Germain following the conclusion of his long affiliation with the Barcelona FC.
In an emotional press conference on Sunday, the goalscoring sensation revealed that he wanted to remain at the Camp Nou, but that financial constraints prevented the Catalan giants from completing a transfer.
On a two-year deal costing a record £22 million per year, he will now join the French champions.
As a result, Messi will be playing his first club football outside of Spain, whereas Ronaldo has found success in Portugal, England, Spain, and currently in Italy.
In contrast, when he was offered the chance to join the current Ligue 1 winners, he did not appear to be overjoyed.
After being accused of sending an arrogant text message to his compatriot, Jose Fonte admitted that he had in fact sent the message, asking him to join Lille in order to compete with Lionel Messi once more.
“I’m in fantastic shape. It makes me happy to hear that a player like Lionel Messi is playing in our league,” Fonte told talkSPORT. “It’s wonderful to hear that a guy like Lionel Messi is playing in our league.”
“What a thrilling experience it has been thus far! It will be more difficult for us to compete in terms of competitors, but we are up for the battle – I’m texting Cristiano to come to Lille on a daily basis. “Ha ha ha,” was his only response.”

Given intrigued about the prospect of going up against PSG’s lethal attacking trio, Fonte has expressed some doubts about how the transfer was able to be finalized while most of the football world is struggling with financial difficulties.
And he went on to say, “Imagine if we were able to keep a clean slate against them [Messi, Neymar, and Mbappe]? However, even if we choose to do so, it will elevate our status even further.
“The first three players are fantastic… Is it possible that they will defend themselves against this? Honestly, I have no idea. The level of competition in the league this year will be exciting to watch.
“All of the clubs have placed limits on their spending. PSG comes in and it appears as if there is no law because they can purchase a lot of players and pay them a lot of money.”
However, Messi has already provided a look into the reasons for his decision to relocate to Paris in advance of a press conference scheduled for Wednesday (10am BST) to provide more details.
“When I arrive in Paris, I can’t wait to begin a new chapter in my professional life there. The club’s mission and purpose are perfectly aligned with my own personal goals and objectives “According to the Argentinean superstar
“I am well aware of the exceptional skill on display among the players and staff. And I’m committed to working with them to create something fantastic for the club and its supporters. This is my first time on the Parc des Princes pitch, and I can’t wait.”
