According to a noted journalist, Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United playmaker Bruno Fernandes will sign a new deal in the coming days.
The Portuguese international has been an excellent addition to the Red Devils’ squad. In 117 appearances in all competitions, he has 49 goals and 39 assists.
His form has been erratic this season, but the board is willing to compensate him for his outstanding performance since joining Sporting two years ago.
According to Romano, Fernandes is on the verge of signing a new contract. Following Fernandes’ contract extension, the club may hold contract talks with Luke Shaw.
In our opinion:
Fernandes has nine goals and 14 assists for the Red Devils this season, but the majority of his goal contributions came in the first half.
He, like some of his United teammates, has struggled to convert chances in the last third this season, but that does not reduce his significance.
He is currently the club’s most inventive attacking player. Jadon Sancho has recently peaked, but the Portuguese have been a consistent player for a long time.
United has gone five seasons without a title, but Fernandes believes the glory days are not far away. It looks to be a formality before extending his stay.
Fernandes will be crucial for United following the international break as they attempt to close the four-point gap on Arsenal for the final Champions League position.
To do so, the club may need to win all of its remaining nine games. This weekend, they have a difficult test against Leicester City. The last three meetings have been won by the Foxes.
