Erik ten Hag feels Manchester United has ‘potential’ after thrashing Liverpool 4-0 in his debut game as manager.

The Dutchman began his tenure as manager of Manchester United with an outstanding friendly victory on Tuesday, thanks to goals from Jadon Sancho, Fred, Anthony Martial, and Facundo Pellistri.

United fared far better than they did last season, however, the scoreline did not accurately represent the number of missed chances Jurgen Klopp’s team had during the game.

United will still need to be at their best if they are to compete with Liverpool in the Premier League next season, and despite the huge margin of victory, Ten Hag has cautioned caution.

“Of course, we’re happy today because I think it was a terrific team with a tremendous spirit, and we know we’re only getting started,” he said after the win against MUTV.

“We did the press, made a few pressing blunders, gave up some chances, but we also produced a lot.” I believe our team was daring and proactive. We’ll have to work hard to correct our flaws, but we’re pleased with the first game.”

When asked what most impressed him during his first match as manager, the new United boss replied, “I know we have good players.” We’ve begun, and the first game is underway, so I’m pleased.

“It will take a long time.” Trust me on this. I’ve seen a number of errors. Liverpool fielded three teams, none of which were at their best. We did not overestimate the outcome.

“We have to be cautious, but I have seen some really amazing things, and I believe we have a lot of innovation and speed ahead.” We have promise.”
