Manchester United went into their match against Villa wanting to rebound after blowing a two-goal lead against Tottenham on Thursday night.

And the Red Devils accomplished just that, with Fernandes emerging as the game’s hero.

The Portugal international, who shone on the right wing during his team’s victory, scored in the 39th minute after Martinez had saved Marcus Rashford’s shot.

Fernandes’ goal deflected off Alex Moreno but was enough to win United all three points.

Express Sport looks at four things we learned from the game at Old Trafford.

Fernandes recovers
During the first half of United’s game against Villa, Fernandes went down and was upset that the referee did not rule in his favor.

He was then slammed by Jadon Sancho, who ordered the Portugal international to’stop complaining’.

Fortunately for United, Fernandes was able to recover by inspiring the Red Devils to victory.

His strike shortly before halftime was his 100th league career goal, and the midfielder is as crucial as ever at Old Trafford.

It remains to be seen whether he can now help United conclude the season on a good note.

Casemiro regains his form
Casemiro was chastised for his performance against Tottenham in midweek after struggling with the intensity.

However, the Brazilian international produced a far superior performance.

Yes, Casemiro was fortunate to avoid a yellow card for a bruising tackle on Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey in the first half.

Despite this, the former Real Madrid player remained disciplined and industrious, assisting United to win the midfield battle and take all three points.

Casemiro has been perhaps Manchester United’s finest player this season, and without him, the Red Devils could be much lower in the Premier League table.

United is still lacking in clinical ability.
Throughout the season, Ten Hag has repeatedly urged his players to be more clinical in front of goal.

And, while United claimed victory, they should have ended the game much sooner.

Marcus Rashford was wasteful, squandering numerous good chances in the early stages of the Manchester derby.

Before Fernandes broke the deadlock, Marcel Sabtizer and Casemiro both came close to scoring.

It’s no surprise that Ten Hag wants to sign Harry Kane, with the Tottenham striker guaranteed to bring goals in any potential summer transfer.
