After Cristiano Ronaldo left, Anthony Martial is the only known center-forward for Manchester United.

Erik ten Hag claimed before Cristiano Ronaldo departed the team that the club’s limited attacking alternatives were a “reality” and that it was evident that the forward position needed to be reinforced next. The club is now willing to buy a striker in the January transfer window.

Although Martial has been injured for the bulk of the season, Marcus Rashford has primarily played down the middle despite his best position being on the left side, which emphasizes the need for reinforcements.

Ten Hag acquired Antony from Ajax in the summer, but he was also interested in acquiring Cody Gakpo from PSV, who has two goals for the Netherlands at the World Cup. It is believed that Old Trafford is still interested in signing the player.

Gakpo, 23, has spent the majority of his time playing on the left side for PSV, but he is capable of playing as a striker and has produced an outstanding 13 goals and 17 assists in just 23 games this season across all competitions.

When queried recently about Gakpo, Marcel Brands, the sporting director of PSV, responded: “We would have sold him if [Manchester] United had offered the amount of money we wanted for Cody. Then, you can’t stop him. With bonuses, we aimed to reach €50 million.

Although he claimed that Gakpo is unlikely to depart in the winter transfer window, Brands insisted that PSV would have sold the midfielder for €50 million, or roughly £43 million, in the summer and that the Dutch club may be open to a similar offer in January.

But Gakpo is still eager to leave PSV, and that might make the difference. When questioned about the transfer connections over the weekend, he responded, “Yeah, everything you mentioned is right. “I concentrate on the World Cup, but it’s wonderful to hear such rumors occasionally.

But, you know, I simply work hard and try to concentrate here. I don’t find [his own performances] surprising. Although I am aware of my abilities, achieving your utmost potential is never easy. I believe I have a lot of room for improvement.

What may United’s strongest lineup look like if Ten Hag signs Gakpo, who openly discussed the idea of leaving PSV in the Netherlands press conference? As Ten Hag has stated he desires, the front three would undoubtedly be “dynamic.”

Gakpo would play in the center, Antony on the right, and Rashford would play on the left side, where he is most effective. Rashford has eight goals so far this year, and starting on that side might help him advance to yet another level.

The possibility of a positional switch between Gakpo and Rashford is intriguing. The two finest teams in the Premier League over the past five years, Manchester City and Liverpool, both have fluid offenses, and United’s front three with Gakpo has the potential to be very effective.

Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, and Bruno Fernandes, the strongest midfield at Old Trafford in recent memory, would also assist the top three. Gakpo is a skilled finisher, therefore Fernades and Eriksen would gain from playing with him as well.
