Erik ten Hag has identified Frenkie de Jong as his top transfer target this summer as he looks to rebuild Manchester United’s midfield after the departures of Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba.

The club appears to be looking for more recruits, with L’Equipe suggesting that United has inquired about bringing Paredes to Old Trafford.

According to the report, United have been put off by PSG’s asking price, which is €35 million (£29.6 million).

United is alleged to have abruptly withdrawn from talks after learning of PSG’s asking price, and it is uncertain whether they will return to the table.

PSG signed Paredes in 2019, although he only appeared in 15 league games for the club last season.

PSG are looking to make significant changes to their team this summer, with new sporting advisor Luis Campos leading the charge.

United have made one addition this summer, bringing in left-back Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord.

They also want to finalize a deal for Christian Eriksen, who has agreed to a three-year contract.

The Dane is scheduled to have a physical soon and might join the team in Melbourne, as the squad departs for their pre-season tour of Asia and Australia on Friday.

United are still in talks with Barcelona about signing de Jong, but according to recent sources, there are a number of roadblocks in the way of a deal, making the United leadership nervous.
