The former England defender believes the skipper is “a more complete player” than Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland, who seems set to join Manchester City. When Erik ten Hag takes over at Old Trafford this summer, many expect United to undergo a rebuild.

The club is on the verge of missing out on Champions League qualification and has appeared to be in turmoil on the field in recent weeks. Despite the presence of Cristiano Ronaldo, the club’s leading scorer with 22 goals this season, Pallister believes his previous employers will be looking for a striker.

“Ronaldo defies logic at times, but what he does is score goals,” he told Genting Casino. “But I think United should look to the future and bring in someone who is the ready-made player, or close enough,” he said. “Manchester United will look for a new center forward.

“All indications point to Haaland joining Manchester City. Harry Kane may still be seeking for a club, and if United can land him, it will be a wonderful deal.

“I believe Kane is a more complete player than Haaland right now.” Pallister stated that without Champions League football next season, United may struggle to attract quality players.

“Manchester United could have an issue in that if they’re not in the Champions League, and it doesn’t look like that will happen again, then it’s twice as tough to attract players,” he continued. Harry Kane has stated that he wants to join a team that competes for trophies, and he may believe that Manchester United is two or three years away from being a Premier League contender.”

United also require midfield reinforcements, according to Pallister, and could do worse than try to recruit Declan Rice, despite West Ham’s insistence that the player will not leave the club for at least another year. “The midfield area, too, needs to be strengthened,” the 56-year-old added.

“I’ve heard Declan Rice mentioned a few times, and I believe he has the look of a Manchester United player.” As a result, I wouldn’t be surprised if United signed him.”
