Manchester United’s strength under Erik ten Hag has been displayed this summer, as the squad ramps up for the new season with three back-to-back friendly victories.

The pre-season tour squad is full of young players who have exceptional speed and acceleration. This has been proved by the three victories, with Ten Hag’s ideology obviously emphasizing quick movement.

Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho have caught the eye this month with their lung-busting dashes, with both showing promises in the attacking third. However, speaking on MUTV ahead of United’s 3-1 win over Crystal Palace in Australia, Bryan Robson stated that neither of these two is the fastest player in the side.

According to Darren Fletcher’s decision, such honor should instead go to Anthony Elanga. “When I spoke with Darren Fletcher, he claimed he’s probably the quickest in the club,” Robson remarked.

Last season, Elanga made the transition from youth to first-team football and established himself as a regular under Ralf Rangnick. He was perhaps one of the few bright spots in a disappointing campaign for United.

However, following a string of mediocre performances in the preseason, the Sweden international has failed to dazzle the world. Robson urged the 21-year-old to use his speed in the correct locations to gain an advantage over his opponents.

“He has to exploit that pace and make the appropriate runs,” he added. He must enter the box and score goals. “Can you put two of your four opportunities away in a game?”
