According to a recent ESPN story, the Red Devils have concluded that ten Hag is the best guy to lead the team forward.

Although Mauricio Pochettino of Paris Saint-Germain was considered a strong candidate, considering his devotion to the French giants, United has struggled to entice the former Tottenham Hotspur manager back to England.

During his five years in Amsterdam, Ten Hag has led Ajax to two league victories and a memorable Champions League semi-final in 2019.

Looking to put a bad decade behind them, United’s leadership will understand that their next appointment must be the correct one.

Currently, outside of the Premier League’s top four, the Red Devils will most certainly spend next season in the Europa League, if not outside of Europe altogether, unless a remarkable reversal occurs in their eight remaining games.

If the club confirms the Dutchman’s appointment, he will be aware that his first significant duty will be to restructure the squad.

What this means for players like Marcus Rashford, who has spent the majority of the second half of the season on the bench, is unknown – but one thing is sure: ten Hag is right up there with the best when it comes to top European managers.
