United were defeated 1-0 at Goodison Park in the early kick-off, putting their chances of qualifying for the Champions League next season in jeopardy. Ralf Rangnick’s side got off to a strong start, with Marcus Rashford being denied twice by Jordan Pickford.

However, everything went wrong in the 27th minute as Anthony Gordon’s deflected shot beat David de Gea and put the Toffees ahead. Rangnick’s team unable to produce many chances after the goal, resulting in a Merseyside defeat.

Everton’s victory kept United in seventh place in the rankings, but Tottenham Hotspur’s victory later in the day dropped United to sixth place, six points behind the Champions League berths. At full-time, fans were eager to express their displeasure with the players by yelling at them.

While the majority of Rangnick’s team trudged into the tunnel, seemingly oblivious to the fans, Sancho turned and saluted the crowd before apologizing for the team’s performance. “Not one, barring Sancho, praising the away fans, humiliation after that performance,” one United fan wrote on Twitter.
