Man Utd takeover: Sheikh Jassim has a lesson to learn from Ed Woodward if bid succeeds

Sheikh Jassim is still attempting to purchase Manchester United, but it's not certain if he will be able to beat Sir Jim Ratcliffe to the prize.

When it comes to a prospective takeover of Manchester United this summer, Sheikh Jassim still can’t be completely ruled out. Additionally, if his candidacy is successful, he reportedly plans to follow the Galactico path. Although big-name deals would excite fans, Ed Woodward is all too aware that winning the Premier League and Champions League does not always depend on star players.

In the race to acquire United, Sir Jim Ratcliffe appeared to have edged over Sheikh Jassim last week.

The Qatari tycoon is reportedly willing to increase his offer to a staggering £6 billion in order to close the transaction, but he still thinks he has a chance of purchasing the Red Devils.

One thing that has already become apparent is that Sheikh Jassim is willing to spend a lot of money on potential recruits should he be successful.

Because of his unclear future at Ligue 1 powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain, Neymar has been mentioned as a potential target.

Even if Real Madrid has long been seen of as the front-runner in the race to capture him, so too has his teammate Kylian Mbappe.

And despite their significance to Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, respectively, Eduardo Camavinga and Kingsley Coman have also been connected to United.

The group’s names undoubtedly thrill enthusiasts. They are all A-listers and valuable assets who have excelled at their own clubs.

Woodward, however, is all too aware that huge decisions may go wrong and that Galacticos don’t always result in victories.

When Marouane Fellaini arrived in 2013, he had his eye on players like Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Cesc Fabregas.

As a result, David Moyes had a disastrous season, leaving after just 10 months despite having signed a six-year deal.

Woodward was eager to make amends the following year. After Louis van Gaal was appointed manager, the Red Devils adopted a new strategy.

The cost to buy Angel Di Maria from Real Madrid was a staggering £57 million, making him the most expensive player ever to join the team.
