The Austrian international’s contract with the Bundesliga club will expire in 2023, after he scored twice in nine first-half minutes and added an assist in Leipzig’s 4-1 win against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.
And according to BILD, his strong performances in Germany this season have piqued the interest of Spurs and United, who will be looking for deep-lying midfielders this summer.
After Leipzig’s triumphs over Spurs in their last-16 Champions League tie in 2020, the 24-year-name old’s made its way into scouts’ notes, according to the publication, and the defensive midfield role is open, with Oliver Skipp and Harry Winks the options.
Meanwhile, Laimer is said to have a fan in interim United manager Ralf Rangnick, who could nominate the Austrian to be a part of the squad’s expected upheaval this summer once the German begins his consulting job.
Paul Pogba is due to leave United on a free transfer, while Fred and Scott McTominay have struggled to make an impression, and Nemanja Matic will turn 34 in August.
Leipzig will also discuss a contract extension with Laimer, according to the source, but that discussion will not take place before the end of the season.
‘After the season, there is still enough time for negotiations…,’ Laimer told ESPN after the triumph at Signal Iduna Park, according to BILD.
‘Konni performed really well today,’ said Leipzig manager Domenico Tedesco, who added: ‘Konni played very well today.’
‘I tease him because his shoots in training go all over the place except for the goal.’ But, regardless of his objectives, his performance was outstanding.’
Laimer’s double at the weekend, as well as his assist for Christopher Nkunku’s goal, gave him five goals and four assists in 31 games this season across all competitions.
Since joining RB Leipzig from RB Salzburg in 2017, he has 11 goals in 149 appearances for the club.
The 24-year-old has also represented his country on 19 occasions, scoring twice.
