Crystal Palace star explains what it’s like playing against Rangnick’s rampaging Red Devils
Manchester United dominated Crystal Palace in Sunday’s Premier League match because of their fresh strategy.
Even though United only scored once, it was enough for the club to keep their first clean sheet of the season at Old Trafford, thanks to Ralf Rangnick’s fresh approach.
United benefited from Palace’s attempt to play out from the back, as it allowed Rangnick’s side to try and win the ball in dangerous situations and adopt the manager’s preferred pressing style.
Palace’s players certainly struggled, and full-back Tyrick Mitchell has detailed how United’s stars made things difficult for them.
“We let them get on top of us too much,” Mitchell told Palace’s official website. We didn’t get as far with the ball in possession as we usually do.”
“Get on the ball, exploit them in the midfield, stretch them,” manager Patrick Vieira ordered the team, according to him. “Unfortunately, we didn’t do it well enough.”
United possessed 61% possession, and the club was able to ‘control’ the game, as interim manager Ralf Rangnick had urged.

Rangnick told United’s website after the game, “We were a little unsteady in certain parts of the game in a few games I saw on TV, and especially against Arsenal, but today we got the sensation that we controlled the game.” Given that we only had two days to recover, the energy that the boys poured into the game is even more impressive.”
United has only just begun its journey.
United’s players have had very little time to acclimate to their new boss, Rangnick. By flooding the middle, he devised a new 4-2-2-2 system that allowed the team to have a stronger foothold in central zones.
The more time he spends with players, the better they will become, and he will figure out who is best suited for his preferred style of play.
Teams, on the other hand, will learn what to expect and will be able to devise game plans to neutralize Rangnick’s techniques. He’ll be ready for anything, and he’ll teach the team how to adjust to the various styles they’ll encounter.
It’s reassuring to have a good tactician in charge at Old Trafford. United’s players will be better for it, and while it was disappointing that the club was not producing enough opportunities, it felt fantastic to be in charge of a game rather than continually swimming against the tide.
Teams will find it difficult to play against United, and Palace defender Mitchell’s comments highlight how irritating it will be.
