According to sources, Manchester United chief executive Richard Arnold has ‘gotten his way’ in the appointment of the club’s next permanent manager. Arnold took over as CEO on Tuesday, with Ed Woodward stepping down from his post as executive vice-chairman. Woodward’s departure from United will not be finalised until April.

United are looking for a new permanent manager to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who was fired.

Ralf Rangnick will serve as acting boss until a permanent replacement is found in the summer.

Candidates associated with the Old Trafford post include Mauricio Pochettino and Erik ten Hag.

At United, Woodward was in charge of appointing and dismissing managers.

That will, however, no longer be the case. Ian McGarry thinks Arnold has gotten his way in having total authority for football choices like choosing a new manager on the Transfer Window podcast.

Despite not leaving the club for another two months, Woodward will no longer have a “direct effect.”

“Richard Arnold’s brief to find a new coach for next season has also been precipitated by the fact that Ed Woodward, who had been briefing that he would be consulting for the club on their search of a new manager notwithstanding his departure, has suddenly emptied his desk,” McGarry stated.

“And Richard Arnold was adamant that he be given exclusive control of the football department’s administrative functions. He appears to have gotten his wish.

“Woodward is reportedly not involved, but given his lengthy history with the Glazer family, I’m sure he’ll still speak with them.”

“However, there will be no immediate impact on the hunt for a new head coach.”

At the start of January, United announced that Arnold will take over for Woodward, who was stepping down.
