The 63-year-old will take over as interim manager at Old Trafford until the conclusion of the season, following which he will join the club as a consultant until 2024.

After spending big on Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane, and Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer, United were anticipated to have a quiet January window, but Rangnick could be given some leeway.

New recruits will be considered, according to The Telegraph, but only after some periphery players have been cut, as the team is currently much too fat.

In the next weeks, Donny van de Beek will be given a chance to impress Rangnick, but if he continues to be disregarded, United will give in to his request to leave the club

The Dutchman has yet to start a Premier League match this season, and as a result, has lost his place in the Netherlands’ national squad. He is desperate for more regular game time.

Jesse Lingard has been on the outside of the team as well, and given that he is out of contract in the summer and has refused to sign a new contract, he could be sold in January

Newcastle United, Everton, West Ham United, and AC Milan are all interested in signing the 28-year-old, and United would be willing to accept a bargain rather than risk losing him for nothing in seven months.

In January, Dean Henderson will be considered for a transfer, since the shot-stopper is a distant second to David de Gea, and the Spaniard’s excellent performances mean Rangnick is unlikely to make any changes in that area of the pitch.

If all three of them go, it will free up funds and space in the squad for future recruits.

Rangnick will have a say in transactions because he will be continuing on at United once his interim managership ends, and he has a track record of buying quality, up-and-coming players, having served as director of football at both Red Bull Salzburg and RB Leipzig.
