Manchester United has advised Paul Pogba to hold off on making a decision on his future with the club until a new permanent manager has been hired.
Despite lengthy discussions with his representatives, the Frenchman is out of contract at the end of the season and has so far turned down the possibility to extend his contract.
Pogba is open to staying at the Theatre of Dreams, but he is being courted by Paris Saint-Germain, who would pay a hefty signing-on fee if they could sign him for free.
Since January 1st, Pogba has been able to sign a pre-contract agreement with non-English clubs, but ESPN reports that United has advised him to wait until the summer before making a decision.
United have begun the process of hiring a new manager by putting up a five-man shortlist that includes Mauricio Pochettino and Erik ten Hag.
The club believes that a new manager will be able to persuade Pogba to stay, and Ralf Rangnick, who will take on a two-year advisory job at the end of the season, has gushed about the midfielder’s skills since taking over.
After missing the last two months due to a groyne injury, Pogba expects to return to play after the winter break.
On Friday, United will play Middlesbrough in the FA Cup.
