Rangnick has been employed on an interim basis for the end of the season after United determined he was the best option.

Other names have also been mentioned, with The Independent and The Athletic suggesting that Laurent Blanc is being considered as an interim manager.

Blanc previously played for Manchester United and has managerial experience with Paris Saint-Germain, though he has not coached in Europe since 2016.

He has been coaching in Qatar with Al-Rayyan for the last two seasons, and that contract has already expired.

Blanc was fired rather than employed.

Blanc was passed over by Manchester United, and it’s unclear whether he was ever a viable contender. Rangnick was, by all accounts, the top candidate for the interim position.

He has remained with Al-Rayyan until now. Blanc was sacked following a string of bad results.

France’s GFFN report Blanc was fired over the weekend, with the team sitting in ninth place out of twelve in the table.

Despite adding James Rodriguez to his roster in the summer, Blanc won only 19 of 51 matches.

The squad finished third last season, therefore the dip to ninth is a significant decline.

It is always possible that things could be worse.

The results under Ralf Rangnick have been less than ideal, and United fans are dissatisfied with the team’s current status.

Despite this, there have been encouraging signs, with United no longer looking as frail in midfield as they did under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and the defense has improved significantly.

The players are causing more problems than the manager, but things could always be worse.

If United had signed Blanc, the club would have endured more than just the one Premier League defeat under Ralf Rangnick so far.
