Looking only at results, Manchester United’s January has not been all that dreadful.
One defeat in five games – a stretch that also featured three wins – isn’t mind-blowing, but it’s also not reason for fear among those in command.
However, if you go beyond the results, the Red Devils are in a bad situation. They appear no closer to approaching the high-octane pressing team that Ralf Rangnick’s arrival seemed to promise, and performances throughout the pitch have been dismal.
They began the New Year in the worst conceivable fashion, losing 1-0 to Wolves in a game in which they should have conceded more goals.
