The Red Devils earned a point at Stamford Bridge under caretaker boss Michael Carrick after Jadon Sancho’s opening was cancelled out by Jorginho’s penalty to draw the hosts level.

And United technical director Fletcher, who was also in the dugout, was seen wearing an earpiece during the game, with some speculating that he was speaking with German coach Rangnick about tactics or replacements.

‘You bet Rangnick is talking to Fletcher on those headphones,’ remarked another. You need a little luck now and again!’

Given the shift in United’s performance in recent weeks, another believed the Scot was communicating with the German.

‘Fletcher is 100% on the phone with Rangnick, we’re pressing and attempting to win the ball higher up the pitch this half!’ he wrote.

‘No possibility of this being genuine,’ Lineker replied to the former United defender. Zero.’

Following the kick-off, United immediately displayed symptoms of wanting to push Chelsea hard, which was seen by Neville, who immediately recognized and commented on the change.

‘Having seen 1 minute, I’m now sure on influence on the team and style!’ he tweeted.

United have now won two games in a row since dismissing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with a 2-0 Champions League triumph at Villarreal on Tuesday and a hard-earned point against Premier League leaders Manchester City at Old Trafford.
