Marcus Rashford of Manchester United is the world’s second-most abused sports star.

Rashford, 24, is one of the most inspiring individuals in the sport right now, having been granted an MBE for his persistent fight to reduce child food poverty and assist needy families. But it hasn’t stopped trolls from mocking his form and accusing him of focusing too much on his day job.

The England star has also been subjected to heinous racial abuse, most notably after missing a penalty in the Euro 2020 final against Italy. Only on Friday did a teenager pleads guilty to tweeting racial slurs towards Rashford after the game.

Rashford has been trolled 32,328 times in the last 12 months, according to a recent Pickwise poll that examined every tweet posted to great athletes across American Football, basketball, football, tennis, golf, and ice hockey.

Only basketball legend LeBron James has received more nasty messages in the last year, with a staggering total of 122,568. Tom Brady, the recently unretired NFL icon, is the third most abused, receiving 28,151 abuses.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Rashford’s Red Devils teammate, is eighth on the list with 11,757 messages sent his way, while former Arsenal star Mesut Ozil is eleventh with 11,192 messages sent his way. Stan Collymore, ex-Liverpool and Nottingham Forest forward, frequently has to deal with trolls online, so it’s no surprise that he’s ranked 13 with 9,659 messages.

Other notable names on the list include NBA superstar Kyrie Irving, Los Angeles Rams superstar Odell Beckham Jr., and Rashford’s Manchester United teammate Paul Pogba. The French midfielder has always been viewed as a divisive figure, and he has received a whopping 7,349 abusive messages in the last year.
