Following the surprising departure of Karim Benzema, the Tottenham striker has been linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu. The Frenchman declared this week that he was leaving the Spanish capital after 14 years.

He has subsequently signed a lucrative contract with Saudi club Al-Ittihad, leaving Real Madrid without a recognized senior center-forward. Kane is the most apparent possibility for the reigning European champions, but his future at Spurs is unknown with only one year left on his contract.

And it appears that a move is getting closer, with the 29-year-old looking open to a change. According to the Spanish publication Marca, Real Madrid has begun negotiations to bring Kane to the Bernabeu this summer.

He is said to have given his blessing to their efforts, and Daniel Levy has estimated that a transfer would cost roughly €80 million (£68.8 million). Despite Kane’s permission, Real does not appear to be expecting an easy transaction.

Levy is likely to be tough in negotiations, which the Spanish team is all too familiar with after previous attempts to recruit Gareth Bale and Luka Modric. Meanwhile, Real Madrid would not be willing to pay more than €100 million (£86 million) to capture the England captain’s services.

Sergio Ramos, a former Real Madrid player, is already among those aiming to bring Kane to Madrid. He has advised the attacker not to miss out on a summer move.

“My advice to any player is don’t turn down the opportunity to play for Real Madrid – it is a special club that knows how to win,” the veteran defender added. Kane has an amazing physical presence; you can’t score as many goals in the Premier League and not be able to play the physical game.

“But he can also play the technical side of the game, which I don’t think he gets enough credit for.” Yes, he is a fantastic goal scorer, but he is also a great football player.”
