The 37-year-old intended to quit the club over the summer and has now turned his sights on Erik ten Hag, the Glazers, and his teammates. A number of clubs, including Chelsea, were connected with a move for Ronaldo when American owner Todd Boehly met with the Portuguese striker’s agent Jorge Mendes.

The Blues never made a move for the 37-year-old after Boehly suggested it to former manager Thomas Tuchel, who refused to entertain the idea, which contributed to his eventual dismissal. Despite having burned almost every bridge at United, Ronaldo appears to be available to sign in January, which could rekindle Boehly’s interest in securing a deal for the Portugal international.

Following the explosive interview with Piers Morgan, one opportunity for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has now become available, with A-League CEO Danny Townsend offering Ronaldo an escape route to move to Australia. “[Ronaldo] said he wasn’t getting any love and respect at Manchester United, but we’ll certainly give him plenty of love and respect in Australia,” Townend said in comments published by News Corp.

“We may not be able to compete with other proposals financially, but we can compete in other areas.” Obviously, it’s a long shot, but we have a compelling idea for him to explore here in Australia.”

If he moves to Australia, he will be following in the footsteps of several former Premier League players, notably former Chelsea stars William Gallas and Daniel Sturridge. Ronaldo is unlikely to want to relocate to Australia since he still wants to play in the UEFA Champions League to expand his goal-scoring record and play at the highest level.
