Manchester United players, including Cristiano Ronaldo, were beaming at training after it was announced that Erik ten Hag had agreed to take over at Old Trafford. The Ajax manager is expected to succeed Ralf Rangnick at the end of the season. Despite the fact that the Red Devils’ season has been unimpressive, members of the squad appear to be in good spirits.

Ten Hag verbally agreed to become United’s next manager on Tuesday night, according to reports.

And as Rangnick put them through their paces at Carrington on Wednesday, the players appeared to be overjoyed with the news.

Despite being in the headlines after reportedly breaking a child supporter’s phone in their 1-0 defeat to Everton on Saturday, Ronaldo had a wide smile on his face as he got to work.

Rangnick, who oversaw the session, appeared to be in a good mood as well.

Nemanja Matic appeared to be having a good time as he worked on his witness with Anthony Elanga and Victor Lindelof.

Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Eric Bailly, on the other hand, were all tense as they worked to improve their fitness.

United would not announce Ten Hag just yet due of respect for Ajax, who are competing for two trophies.

This includes the Dutch Cup final this weekend, in which they will face PSV Eindhoven.

But it’s only a matter of time before the former Bayern Munich coach arrives at Old Trafford, charged with restoring the club’s glory days.

If that happens, numerous players may be forced to depart Old Trafford.

While a new contract offer has been made to Paul Pogba, the France international is poised to leave for a new challenge elsewhere.

Paris Saint-Germain appears to be the frontrunner to sign him, however, Real Madrid and Juventus have also been linked.

United are also prepared itself for the departures of Edinson Cavani and Jesse Lingard.

There are also doubts about Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Eric Bailly, and Dean Henderson’s long-term futures.

Ten Hag, on the other hand, will attempt to bring in new players.

Antony and Jurrien Timber of Ajax will be on his radar, with United in need of a new attacker and center-back, respectively.

And Harry Kane and Declan Rice are targets for the Red Devils’ hierarchy, even if Tottenham and West Ham would demand hefty compensation to let them go.

Meanwhile, Rio Ferdinand has reacted to the news of Ten Hag’s departure to England.

And he’s selected four candidates he believes should be considered for the 52-year-No. old’s 2 spot.

“He’ll be talking,” the former center-back explained.

“He’ll be asking Rene (Meulensteen), Robin van Persie, Jaap Stam, and Edwin van der Sar about their experiences at Manchester United.

“I know the individuals who are there right now are working hard to put a system in place for the next management and to make a good effort to attract the right talent.

“It’s about the talk with Ten Hag and the folks that run the club about how we recruit.”

“The crucial question is, who is driving this?

“Is it the manager or the recruitment staff who says, ‘This is the player, this is the DNA?’

“I’m sure these are the conversations that are taking place.”
