Jurgen Klopp has admitted that he is “worried” about Liverpool’s situation after their winless start to the Premier League season has persisted.

The injury-ravaged Reds were defeated 2-1 by bitter North West rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford on Monday night, despite Mohamed Salah’s 81st-minute goal.

Liverpool’s sluggish opening allowed Jadon Sancho to give the hosts a first-half lead, which was quickly doubled by Marcus Rashford.

Because of Naby Keita’s late withdrawal, Klopp was missing nine first-team players due to injury, while Darwin Nunez served the first of a three-game suspension.

Liverpool is currently seven points behind Manchester City in the Premier League after drawing their first two games, and Klopp admitted: “We are in a delicate situation injury-wise, we got through the week with 14, 15 senior players available and now have to make sure they don’t get ill.”

“I’m worried about our condition, but that’s the way it is.” We’re preparing for Bournemouth and Newcastle right now.”

Liverpool had 70% control, more shots on target, and won more corners than United, but they were never confident of completing an impossible comeback from 2-0 down after conceding the opening goal for the seventh consecutive league game.

“We should have won this game,” Klopp remarked, “I know that sounds stupid, but that’s how I viewed it.”

“What about my feelings?” We lost, which says a lot about my feelings. That’s it, I’m quite disappointed with the outcome.”

Klopp said that his team’s inability to deal with United’s predicted high-intensity start disappointed him.

“The contrasts couldn’t be greater if you viewed both games,” he remarked. “It was a game where it was completely evident what United would do.”

“That’s how they began the game. Were they more aggressive than us at first? Most likely, yeah. It was just the game that United desired. We can blame ourselves, but it was a wild ride.

“They hit the post and then scored the goal, then we took over and played how we should have played until the final pass or decision.”

“It’s difficult to create chances every 20 seconds against so many legs in defense, but we had a lot of occasions in the box, we were unlucky off the set-piece – I’m not sure how the ball didn’t go in.” We would have won if we had scored there… but we didn’t.

“It was a little late when we scored our goal, which I believe we deserved.” We’ve had occasions where De Gea produced outstanding saves, with blocks and the like, but these are the realities. We lost 2-1 because time ran out because the clock ran out due to circumstances other than football.”
