‘I know it sounds ridiculous’ – Jurgen Klopp tries to explain Liverpool defeat to Manchester United

Jurgen Klopp spoke about Liverpool’s 2-1 loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Jurgen Klopp has admitted that he is “worried” about Liverpool’s situation after their winless start to the Premier League season has persisted.

The injury-ravaged Reds were defeated 2-1 by bitter North West rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford on Monday night, despite Mohamed Salah’s 81st-minute goal.

Liverpool’s sluggish opening allowed Jadon Sancho to give the hosts a first-half lead, which was quickly doubled by Marcus Rashford.

Because of Naby Keita’s late withdrawal, Klopp was missing nine first-team players due to injury, while Darwin Nunez served the first of a three-game suspension.

Liverpool is currently seven points behind Manchester City in the Premier League after drawing their first two games, and Klopp admitted: “We are in a delicate situation injury-wise, we got through the week with 14, 15 senior players available and now have to make sure they don’t get ill.”

Liverpool had 70% control, more shots on target, and won more corners than United, but they were never confident of completing an impossible comeback from 2-0 down after conceding the opening goal for the seventh consecutive league game.

“It’s difficult to create chances every 20 seconds against so many legs in defense, but we had a lot of occasions in the box, we were unlucky off the set-piece – I’m not sure how the ball didn’t go in.” We would have won if we had scored there… but we didn’t.
