Ralf Rangnick is a huge supporter of Chelsea’s Champions League-winning defender, who has yet to sign a new deal.

Rudiger, 28, is focused on the Blues’ quest for silverware and will wait until the conclusion of the season to make a choice.

With United conceding the most goals in the top four and the joint-most in the top six, it throws a pall on Harry Maguire’s future.

Rudiger’s contract talks at Stamford Bridge are no closer to being completed, with the centre-back, whose agreement ends this summer, well knowing that he could make up to £400,000 a week with Real Madrid or PSG, both of which have expressed interest.

The battle for Rudiger, alongside Kylian Mbappe and Paul Pogba, is shaping up to be one of the most intense in this summer’s transfer season.

Chelsea’s most recent bid is thought to be approximately half that, although United understands that bringing in a leader with equivalent talent would be more expensive.

Rudiger, a huge fan favourite, helped Chelsea to the Champions League final last season with the greatest defensive record in the competition. He’s also won the FA Cup twice, the Europa League once, and the Super Cup once.

The Germany international has been a constant in Thomas Tuchel’s Premier League side this season, helping Chelsea set an English record by becoming the first team in European Cup/Champions League history to win five consecutive home games while keeping five clean sheets.
