Man United are looking to bolster their attacking options by signing Red Bull Salzburg’s Benjamin Sesko.

Manchester United is getting its house in order ahead of the start of the new Premier League season this weekend, after a slow start to the summer transfer market.

United have signed three new players to Erik ten Hag’s side, including Feyenoord’s Tyrell Malacia, Ajax center-back Lisandro Martinez, and former Brentford attacking-midfielder Christian Eriksen. All three players have strengthened areas that will benefit United in the future, but other areas require reinforcement before the window closes on September 1.

As everyone knows, Manchester United is still determined to strengthen their central-midfield options with the signing of Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong. Since May, the Reds have been in talks with the Spanish giants, and they remain hopeful of reaching a major breakthrough.

But it’s not just in midfield that United needs to strengthen before the game; they also need to improve their attacking options. Edinson Cavani left the club at the end of last season, leaving them without a striker, while Cristiano Ronaldo’s future remains uncertain. United’s only other senior striker available to manager Erik ten Hag is Anthony Martial.

According to the Manchester Evening News, United have admitted that they are lacking in firepower at the top of the pitch and need to strengthen that section of the club before the transfer season closes. To address that issue, the Reds are reportedly considering a move for Red Bull Salzburg striker Benjamin Sesko.

Football director John Murtough met with Sesko’s agent about a month ago to discuss the possibility of a transfer. The striker, who recently scored in a pre-season friendly against Liverpool, had ten goals and seven assists in 36 games for Salzburg last season.

Sesko, who turns 19 at the end of May, is seen as a player with immense potential, and it is unlikely that it will be long before other big-name clubs from across Europe begin sniffing about for his signature. As a result, luring him to Old Trafford this summer would be a significant statement of purpose for United.

Having said that, if United were to recruit the child, you can almost bet that a large number of fans would want his name on the back of their 2022/23 replica shirts. But what number would he take if he joined the Reds?

The striker now wears the No.30 shirt for Salzburg, a number he has used since the start of the 2020/21 season. It is the only number he has ever worn as a Salzburg senior player.

United’s goalkeeper Nathan Bishop now wears the No.30 jersey. However, his future at Old Trafford is uncertain, with League One club Wycombe Wanderers willing to sign him. He spent the season on loan with Mansfield Town, where he excelled in goal.

As a result, if Bishop, who turns 23 later this year, leaves, Sesko will be able to keep his preferred shirt number at Old Trafford. The attacker, who wears No.11 for his home Slovenia, has previously worn the numbers 21, 25, and 29. Only 21 of the three aforementioned numbers are now accessible at United.
