A lot of celebrities appeared to unfollow the young forward on social media after alarming allegations that he assaulted an 18-year-old student surfaced over the weekend.

Victor Lindelof was the most recent to unfollow Greenwood, 20, but after unfollowing his teammate earlier this week, the Swedish defender has suddenly added the striker to a list of 298 people he follows.

According to Sportsmail, Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard, and Fred were not following the star on Monday, but they have since added Greenwood to their Instagram followers.

Greenwood was detained again on Tuesday by Greater Manchester Police on suspicion of sexual assault and threatening to kill, and he spent the third night in detention.

The England striker was arrested for the first time on Sunday after disturbing images and audio surfaced on social media suggesting he assaulted a young woman.

Greenwood’s arrest has elicited a significant reaction from fans and sponsors.

On Monday, Manchester United pulled all Mason Greenwood items from its website after outraged supporters returned duplicate shirts featuring the player’s name to the Old Trafford megastore.

Nike has terminated the player’s sponsorship agreement, United’s shirt sponsors TeamViewer have stated that they are ‘closely following developments,’ and official partner Cadbury has stated that Greenwood will not appear on any of their marketing items.

The striker was removed from FIFA 22 in a Tuesday update. The Manchester United striker is no longer available in the popular computer game’s offline modes following a database upgrade for all platforms, including Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.

However, his FIFA 22 Ultimate Team item is still operational and may be traded on the game’s FUT 22 transfer market, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Several of the club’s key players, including Cristiano Ronaldo, David de Gea, and Paul Pogba, appeared to have unfollowed Greenwood on Instagram despite following other members of the squad.

‘Detectives have been allowed further time to speak to a guy in his 20s who was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault on a woman,’ police said in a statement on Tuesday evening.

‘On Sunday afternoon, we placed the suspect in custody after becoming aware of online social media photographs and videos made by a woman describing acts of physical aggression.’

‘He is still being questioned after magistrates granted an extension until tomorrow [Wednesday].’

‘Following additional inquiries, he has since been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threatening to kill.’

‘Enquiries are ongoing, and the victim is still receiving specialized support.’

The photographs that went viral over the weekend have subsequently been deleted off the internet.

Another post includes a voice clip of a man and a woman talking in October of last year.

Following the claims, United issued a statement stating that it was aware of them and that it was conducting inquiries ‘to ascertain the complete circumstances.’

‘Manchester United does not condone any form of violence,’ it continued.

United went on to say that the player would “not return to training or play games until further notice.”

Meanwhile, Greenwood’s teammates were photographed in training on Tuesday as they prepare for their FA Cup fourth-round clash with Middlesbrough – their first match since the Premier League’s winter break.

Ralf Rangnick’s team welcomes the Championship club to Old Trafford on Friday night as they continue their season-long chase of silverware.

It’s the club’s first game back after the winter break. Last time out, they defeated West Ham United in the Premier League, thanks to an injury-time winner from Marcus Rashford.

Nike, the world-famous sportswear company, issued a statement expressing “great concern.”

It was also reported that their relationship with Greenwood has been halted.

‘We have suspended our partnership with Mason Greenwood,’ according to a statement. We are gravely worried by the troubling reports and will continue to keep a close eye on the situation.
