In Monday’s training session, Manchester United stepped up their preparations for a return to play.

The majority of the Manchester United players had a breather from the grueling season this week during the Premier League’s winter break, though Fred, Edinson Cavani, and Alex Telles were all summoned away and continue to serve on international duty.

The majority of the team returned to Carrington on Monday, rejuvenated following their vacation, ahead of their first FA Cup game back against Middlesbrough on Friday.

Ralf Rangnick put his players through their paces, and we noticed four things:

Pogba’s return

Due to a thigh injury, Paul Pogba was not supposed to return to training until the end of February, but Rangnick was taken aback by his miraculous comeback to the pitch ahead of the triumph over West Ham.

The Frenchman wasn’t ready to play in the encounter, but with another two weeks of training and recovery, he might be back in the lineup on Friday.

Pogba looked good in the training and must be eager to play his first game under the new manager.

Chong back

Tahith Chong returned to United training on Monday for the first time since the summer.

The Dutch winger had been enjoying himself on loan at Birmingham City until he suffered a ruptured thigh tendon in early November, necessitating surgery and thus ending his season.

Chong returned to United for rehab and is already ahead of schedule on his road to recovery, having returned to the field to work one-on-one with a fitness coach, though he is still a couple of weeks away from returning to full training.

He has been missed by Birmingham, but he is due to return to the Midlands later this month to finish the season.

Young Prayers are involved.

Due to the departures of Donny van de Beek, Anthony Martial, and Amad on transfer deadline day, several of the club’s potential prospects were summoned into training on Monday to make up the numbers.

Along with Chong, the session included intriguing left-back Alvaro Fernandez and youthful center-back Will Fish, who was just recalled from a loan spell at Stockport County.

Both may be hoping to play against Middlesbrough in the Championship.

Rashford hopes to maintain his current form.

While many sportsmen may have relished the break over the last two weeks, Rashford’s sabbatical couldn’t have come at a worse time.

The striker has had a poor run of form after making a big impact on his return from injury, going without a goal since October.

But an emphatic finish to seal a win over Brentford, followed by a last-gasp winner against West Ham, saw him score in two consecutive games and look revitalized.

It’s unfortunate the break has cut short his run, but perhaps he can maintain it when football begins, and he seems motivated in practice to guarantee that happens.
