Manchester United is considering a fresh move for Villarreal defender Pau Torres during the summer transfer window, according to the Manchester Evening News.
Last summer, the Spanish center-back was one of the top names on United’s shortlist, but they chose against pursuing him after they had the opportunity to sign Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane.
Varane has been a valuable addition to the Red Devils, but the Frenchman has battled to stay injury-free over a long length of time. United’s performance has suffered as a result of this.
Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof have also been inconsistent, while Eric Bailly and Phil Jones have been out of favor for the bulk of the season.

According to the Manchester Evening News, United may seek Torres’ services again. With a rumored release clause of £49.8 million, the Spaniard will not be cheap this summer.
Last summer, Villarreal was open to a part-exchange deal, but now prefers a cash offer. Torres’ arrival at Old Trafford may coincide with Bailly and Jones’ departure.

United’s defensive troubles have persisted for the majority of the season. Maguire has had a difficult season in which he has been blamed for multiple positional blunders.
The absence of a reliable center defensive partner has also been detrimental. Varane has looked potential, but his injury record in recent years has been a source of concern.
This might clear the way for the acquisition of another high-profile center-back. Torres, with his strong aerial presence and box concentration, might be a great addition to the squad.
He has won approximately two aerial duels per game this season. The Spaniard prefers not to engage in tackles, but he has excelled with an average of more than three clearances per game.
Torres has proven his worth by leading Villarreal to the Champions League semi-finals. United will need to act quickly to sign him since there could be a lot of competition.
In the past, the hierarchy had a habit of haggling over price tags. They can’t afford to take the same approach with Torres. Erik ten Hag, the new leader, may still have the last say on the transfer.
