Reports from 90Min last week suggested that Arsenal were in the race to sign Manchester United teenager Alejandro Garnacho.
It always seemed unlikely that United would sell Garnacho but the Gunners were lurking alongside Chelsea, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain.
This came just days after Garnacho came off the bench to score a dramatic winner in a 2-1 victory away at Fulham.
Harry Maguire took to Instagram after that game to call Garnacho a ‘special talent’, a verdict echoed by supporters and pundits alike.
Add in two assists as a substitute against Aston Villa days earlier and a goal against Real Sociedad in the Europa League and Garnacho is making quite the impact.
The 18-year-old is understandably attracting major interest but United are now moving to make sure he stays at Old Trafford.
The Daily Star report that Garnacho is close to signing a new deal to stay at United for years to come.
It’s stated that Garnacho currently earns around £5,000-a-week but now stands to earn around £50,000-a-week with this new contract.
United are allegedly confident of having the deal done and dusted by the end of 2022, fending off that rival interest.
That’s a staggering pay rise for Garnacho but a sign of his immense quality and huge potential with the Red Devils.
A move to Arsenal always seemed a little unlikely and the Gunners will need to cross Garnacho off their immediate list with this new contract now close.
