Not Kane – ‘It’s not a secret’ – Erik ten Hag tells Manchester United to sign a new No. 9
'It's hardly a secret,' Erik ten Hag said of Manchester United's desire to recruit a new No. 9 amid Harry Kane speculation.
WHAT THEY SAID: According to the Daily Mail, Ten Hag stated, “Everyone knows, it’s not a secret that we’ve had a shortage of No. 9s throughout the season.” First, there was Ronaldo’s departure, then Anthony Martial was frequently unavailable, Jadon Sancho was frequently unavailable, and there was a shortage of frontline players.
“With fewer players, we have to cover more games, so we definitely need frontline players to strengthen the squad.”
THE BIGGER PICTURE: Kane’s contract expires at the conclusion of next season, which means he’ll have to make a big choice this summer. The Red Devils have already been linked with a bid for Kane and are prepared to offer him a contract worth £300,000 per week. According to the Mail, United are unwilling to enter into lengthy negotiations with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy; United haven’t bought a player from Tottenham since purchasing Dimitar Berbatov in 2008.
