According to rumors, Barcelona cannot afford to turn down Manchester United’s first bid for Frenkie de Jong. United is rumored to have launched a deal for the Holland star for up to £68 million, which is expected to be accepted.

This summer, De Jong is United’s top midfield target as Erik ten Hag looks to imprint his mark on his side. And it appears he’s about to get his guy.

According to Marca, Barcelona’s financial situation means they can’t turn down the offer, which includes an initial £50 million-plus £17 million in add-ons. Club executives feel that is the only significant offer they will receive for a player they are willing to sell this summer.

Pedri and Ansu Fati are the only two players considered crucial by Barcelona and are not for sale. Boss Xavi wants to make his own signings but cannot do so unless he gets finances.

As a result, Marca believes the sale of De Jong could be the most significant in the club’s history. Xavi is pleased with the player, but the deal is too good to pass up.

De Jong had been hesitant to travel thus far. Barcelona is his ideal club, according to the article, and he believes he can advance his career with them.

However, he may change his mind due to United’s insistence on signing him and pressure from the Barcelona board to let him go. Earlier in his career, De Jong worked under Ten Hag at Ajax.

Marciano Vink, a former Ajax midfielder, feels De Jong has what it takes to make an impact at Old Trafford. “I know Frenkie a little bit, and he is an eager player,” Vink told ESPN FC. He wishes to demonstrate his worth.

“He is unhappy with his role, and he is unhappy with his performance in Barcelona.” He certainly wants to do better and prove to everyone that he is the appropriate man.

“However, as long as Busquets is playing in his role, it will be extremely difficult.” It’s a no-brainer for me to return to Manchester United and reunite with your old manager, simply to give the club a new face.

“That’s more difficult for me than waiting for Busquets to retire.” I believe that Man United will be a good environment for him to grow and assist Man United to go back to where they belong.

“He is a great player; he can dribble, put people on the wrong foot, and create situations.” He is a leader, and I believe Manchester United is missing in leadership.

“Of sure, they have amazing players, but I don’t see any leaders other than [Cristiano] Ronaldo.” Someone must make the transition from defense to midfield and begin directing the player.”
