Mason Mount, who is expected to leave Chelsea in the summer, is said to prefer a move to Manchester United over one to Liverpool or Arsenal. The England star’s contract with the Blues is set to expire in a year, and he may leave Stamford Bridge before the 2023–24 season.

When the domestic transfer window opens on June 14, Mount is anticipated to be the focus of a high-profile summer tussle between multiple Premier League powerhouses. The 24-year-old has been linked with Man United, Liverpool, and Arsenal, with Chelsea reportedly still wanting to extend his contract.

However, despite Mauricio Pochettino’s anticipated appointment as Chelsea’s head coach, a transfer now appears likely. The playmaker is apparently “leaning towards” a major transfer to United, where he would assist Erik ten Hag in reviving the Red Devils.

It is stated that conversations between the two parties will occur “in due course.” There may still be more twists in the story since other prospective teams are reportedly aware of Mount’s preference.

The Athletic claims that for United to finalize a deal for Mount, they still have to overcome a number of obstacles. Although the United transfer hierarchy prioritizes the acquisition of a new striker, both clubs would still need to agree on a player’s purchase price.

Additionally, there is still some uncertainty regarding the club’s ownership structure. Therefore, concerns over who will be responsible for footing the bill for what would undoubtedly be an exorbitant transfer charge will likely arise.

Given the lack of depth in the midfield this season, United manager Ten Hag is eager to recruit players in the off-season. While Christian Eriksen, Casemiro’s midfield partner, missed two key months due to injury immediately after the new year, Casemiro has missed a number of games due to injury.

To fill in for those absences, Marcel Sabitzer was added during the January transfer window, although his season was cut short due to an injury of his own. Therefore, Mount would be a welcome addition to Old Trafford.

However, it’s still unclear whether the Three Lions star will move at all. The player is said to be a great fan of Pochettino, who is anticipated to be named Chelsea’s next manager soon. This may have an impact on Mount’s future.

It’s unlikely that other interested clubs will give up trying to sign one of Gareth Southgate’s most reliable players. Mount has been associated with both Liverpool and Arsenal due to both teams’ desire to enhance their respective midfield options.

For the first time since Frank Lampard brought Mount into the first team at the beginning of the 2019–20 season, Mount fell out of favor at Chelsea this season. Since February 26, he has only appeared in three games, and following abdominal surgery, he will miss the Blues’ next two games.
