Footage of the Portugal international slapping a phone out of a supporter’s hand has gone viral online, and it appears that the player may face major consequences.

According to the Telegraph, Merseyside police are investigating the incident, for which Ronaldo apologized in an Instagram post last night, offering to purchase the fan a ticket to a game at Old Trafford.

Merseyside Police acknowledged an assault accusation in a statement to the Telegraph.

“We are in contact with Manchester United Football Club and Everton FC in response to reports of an alleged assault at the Everton vs. Manchester United football match,” a representative stated.

“As players were leaving the pitch at 2.30pm, it was claimed that a boy was assaulted by a member of the opposing team.” Inquiries are ongoing, and authorities are actively working with Everton Football Club to evaluate CCTV material and conduct comprehensive witness interviews to determine if an offense occurred.”

The Football Association also stated that they will investigate the event, adding, “We are aware of the occurrence and will be requesting opinions on the matter from both clubs and the individual involved.”

Man United was defeated 1-0 at Goodison Park, putting their battle for a top-four berth in jeopardy, and it appears that Ronaldo was not pleased with the result.

His actions have been extensively condemned online, with former Liverpool left-back Jose Enrique confessing he’s never liked the former Real Madrid man, who considers himself a ‘God.’
