Football Fight – Man Utd’s Hannibal Mejbri slammed for role in four-game ban after training ground fight

This season, the Manchester United teenager is on loan at Birmingham City, and he once again demonstrated his competitiveness after being involved in a red card incident.

Hannibal Mejbri, a Manchester United trainee, was in action for Birmingham City in the Championship on Saturday, with former United forward Mark Robins criticizing his role in a red card.

The 19-year-old came on as a substitute against Robins’ Coventry City, and he’d just been on the pitch for 22 minutes of the goalless draw when he tussled with Sky Blues midfielder Gustavo Hamer.

Referee Graham Scott issued a straight red card to Dutchman Hamer after he clashed with Hannibal and kicked out at the Tunisian. It was the former Feyenoord player’s second red card of the season, and he will now serve a four-match suspension.

Robins, who played for United between 1988 and 1992, memorably scored a goal against Oldham in the FA Cup that many believe saved Sir Alex Ferguson’s job. After the game, Robins criticized his player but also thought Hannibal was substantially involved in the red card.

“I didn’t see it in real-time,” Robins first told reporters.

“I saw it afterward and it appeared to me like Mejbri grabbed his legs, grabbed him, and then rolled and he’s done whatever he’s done and you can’t really see from what I’ve looked at.”

“However, astute officials have spotted it and decided to expel him.” And because it is violent behavior, he is suspended for four games.”

The incident is the latest in Hannibal’s colorful young career, which includes a scuffle with teammate Alex Telles during a Manchester United training session at the end of last season.

Interim manager Ralf Rangnick was still in command of the squad at the time, and he was compelled to intervene and call a halt to the practice after the duo allegedly left their teammates stunned by their conduct.

The incident occurred not long after Hannibal, who was sent off in a Papa John’s Trophy defeat at Lincoln last season, was lauded by some United fans for his belligerent approach in a 4-0 loss at Liverpool in April.

The former Monaco teenager came on as an 84th-minute substitute at Anfield and was booked after a series of strong challenges on Liverpool players, receiving his yellow card after leaving Jordan Henderson in a heap.

After the game, United legend Gary Neville commended him, stating, “To be fair, the kid’s showing something.”

“To be honest, it takes a young kid to come on and show the rest of them how to race to the ball and challenge.” I truly admire him.

“Perhaps he doesn’t like the concept of Liverpool passing by; I wish the others felt the same.”
