On Saturday, the Reds will face Los Blancos in the Champions League final, a rematch of 2018 final in Kyiv.

But a lot has changed since then, and Liverpool, despite missing out on the Premier League title, is the favorite in this final.

Real Madrid won La Liga, but it was an odd season in Spain’s top division, with Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, and Sevilla all underperforming.

Los Blancos are a multiple Champions League champion looking for a 14th crown, and they have demonstrated their pedigree in the competition this season.

Carlo Ancelotti’s men have startled PSG, Manchester City, and others, and if they are not careful, Liverpool might become a victim of the Spanish club’s Champions League mythology.

So it’s a good thing Klopp is aware of the threat his opponents offer.

“First and foremost, they are a world-class team, a world-class club, and they know how to win football games,” Reds manager Roberto Martinez told UEFA.

“The core [of the teams that met in 2018], particularly the midfield, remains.” Many things are still the same as they were before.

“Their backline has changed dramatically.” True, Cristiano [Ronaldo] isn’t there, but [Karim] Benzema is still there, and there are young Brazilians [Vincius Junior and Rodrygo] now, so it’s a top-class team.”
