Journalist Confirm First Jan. Deal: Manchester United set to sign ‘special’ £26m goalscorer from under Arsenal’s noses
According to Rudy Galetti, Manchester United and PSV are directly negotiating a transfer for Arsenal target Cody Gakpo to Old Trafford.
On his website, the journalist describes how sources have verified to him that United are looking to sign Gakpo and that negotiations are actually further along than previously reported.
We all know how much Arsenal loves Gakpo. The PSV player may even be available for a bargain £26 million, according to reports from just a week ago, since the Dutch club is reportedly desperate to offload him. The Dutchman, who has been tearing up the Eredivisie lately, has also been linked to a move to Leeds.
Galetti, though, maintains that Manchester United will secure their target. He asserts that the Red Devils want to close a transaction quickly and beat out everyone else. The possibility of a January transfer has not been ruled out as United looks to give Erik ten Hag more offensive alternatives.
Gakpo has been in nothing less of fantastic form this season. Across all competitions, he has already netted 13 goals and assisted on another 16. He is undoubtedly demonstrating why so many clubs want him.
TBR Opinion: If Gakpo joins United, Arsenal will be devastated.
Arsenal is leading the Premier League standings and would feel slightly betrayed if United made a significant acquisition before them.
For so long, Gakpo has been on Arsenal’s radar that you almost imagined they had a contract in place. However, it appears that Ten Hag’s influence at United may be significant because the Dutchman is headed to Old Trafford.
If the £26 million price tag is accurate, whomever does land him will be getting a great deal. Gakpo is a significant talent, which is why United, Arsenal, and Leeds are all interested in signing him.
