Man Utd could sign three more England stars for Erik ten Hag with transfer wish clear

Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, may target English players in the transfer market this summer.

Manchester United are interested in signing both Harry Kane and Mason Mount this summer, and they may not be the only England internationals to join. Kyle Walker-Peters of Southampton might be a helpful signing to add depth in both full-back positions. Erik ten Hag has already stated that he would like to add English players if possible, and the former Tottenham defender may be a useful alternative.

Ten Hag stated in July, following the signing of Lisandro Martinez, that he would like to target English players but was put off by the prices. Many believe that an ‘English tax’ applies to home-based stars, with many believing that players from England command higher wages than those from other nations of comparable talent because of their nationality.

“I’d like to sign English players because I believe there is only one criterion, and that is quality in combination with money,” Ten Hag said at the time. “It looks like English players are pretty pricey. It’s an undeniable reality. In the end, it all comes down to quality.”

Nevertheless, things may be changing this summer. According to the Guardian, Kane, and Mount are among Ten Hag’s main objectives as he looks to fight for the Premier League crown next season.

The two are unlikely to be cheap, with the Tottenham talisman commanding at least £80 million despite his contract expiring in little over a year. Similarly, Mount has been valued at roughly £50 million, despite playing in the same position contractually at Stamford Bridge.

If the pair arrives, United’s transfer funds are likely to be constrained, as the club is under financial fair play laws, even if a large-money takeover is accomplished. As a result, they may be on the lookout for low-cost options in other positions.

It remains to be seen whether Ten Hag will look into the possibility, with the focus being on extending Diogo Dalot’s contract, but he may be an attractive alternative if United is in need of a new full-back.

That would add three more England internationals to Shaw, Rashford, Sancho, and Harry Maguire, who could leave this summer, with Walker-Peters getting two caps in 2022.
